About New English Brewing
Founded in San Diego in 2007, New English Brewing is independently-owned and brews award-winning beer in a wide range of styles. Originally from England but living in San Diego since 1995, founder and brew master Simon Lacey envisioned brewing everything from West Coast style IPAs to English style ales with the finest ingredients, focusing on commitment to quality and consistency.
With 20 taps in the tasting rooms and the winner of nearly 50 medals, including GABF and World Beer Cup awards, New English beer varieties comprise a light pilsner, fruit options, several IPAs (including West Coast & New England style hazy, as well as a Double IPA), English style brown ale, Dry Irish and Imperial stouts (Zumbar Chocolate Coffee Imperial Stout is rated 99 on Rate Beer), and barrel-aged offerings. All the beers retain a common theme of being multi-dimensional yet balanced, highly flavorful and drinkable. Since 2017 New English has made a commitment to brew all beers with Clarity Ferm, meaning the entire range is gluten-reduced.
In 2019, New English moved all packaged beer to 12oz 6-pack cans, at the same time unveiling a clean and modern design makeover. The cans are emblazoned with a bold X motif, representing the company’s belief that success comes at the intersection of a desire to innovate, learn, adapt, and be bold. In addition, while remaining inclusive and listening to different viewpoints, New English maintains a clear vision and focus on its company values, including an unwavering commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
New English operates from a 9000 square foot facility in Sorrento Valley, San Diego. The space houses the production brewery, cellar and canning facility, as well as two tasting rooms that are open to the public. The spacious “Barrel Room” can be booked for private events. New English offers a fun and friendly environment, where everyone is welcome. Simon and Nina Lacey say, “Our aim is for guests to come as they are and leave happier than when they arrived. We love our guests and we love our city, hence our motto: ‘San Diego, Independent, Pure and Simple!’”
New English also distributes to restaurants, bars, and stores in San Diego County.
